Who Is Horizon?

Horizon Ventures, and its DBA "Horizon Backoffice Ops", is a fractional CFO and accounting services firm that specializes in supporting high fixed cost business models - think brick & mortar, high debt, etc.  We also function as the complete backoffice team when needed and deploy capital alongside our expertise when the opportunity is a fit.

Follow Us

Nate holds a Business & Economics degree from the Virginia Military Institute.  After serving in the Marines, he built a a career in finance, first in investment banking and then by holding financial & operational roles within private companies.  Nate now fulfills the CFO role within Horizon's portfolio companies and clients.

We work with QuickBooks Online ("QBO") and are certified Platinum. QBO provides many benefits to our clients including:

  • Real-Time Collaboration and Access - QBO allows both the client and accountant to work in the same account at the same time, from anywhere. No more emailing backups or waiting for file access - just instant, real-time visibility into the books 
  • Robust Integration Ecosystem - QBO integrates seamlessly with hundreds of apps - from payroll and CRM to HR and point-of-sale systems - making it ideal for scaling businesses.

At HBO we recommend Accrual Basis Accounting and it is what we provide standard to all our clients.  While Cash Basis or a Hybrid Accrual / Cash Basis method is possible, both of these methods have the downside of providing less accurate pictures of your current financial performance and cash needs.  Most accountants will charge more for running Accrual Basis Accounting, so if you're comparing us to others, be sure to check on this!

We will!  That is, an employee at Horizon will be doing all your accounting work, including the bookkeeping.  We do not offshore our accounting work to anyone else - so you can be confident that the work product you receive will be done accurately and properly.  

We pride ourselves on getting our clients accurate and complete financials to our clients within the first half of every month.  Our goal is be quicker if we can, but that is our guarantee.  If you have a business with stricter requirements, we would be happy to discuss how quickly you need to close out each month. 

It all depends!  If you are a Prime IV or Burn Boot Camp Franchisee, our rates are highly competitive, and we are confident we can match or beat any written offer from other Financial Advisory firms.  If you aren't one of these two businesses, we would need to provide you with a written quote after taking a look at your books.  We always recommend shopping around for the right fit for you.
